Gerðuberg Basalt Columns
Snæfellsnes Peninsula, West Iceland
nature
A striking cliff made up of perfectly symmetrical hexagonal basalt columns, formed when lava cooled and contracted into geometric shapes. Stretching for around 500 meters, the columns rise between 7–14 meters high, creating a massive wall that looks almost man-made. The formation is one of Iceland’s most visually precise examples of columnar basalt and offers a unique, almost architectural landscape.
