Eldborg Crater

Snæfellsnes Peninsula, West Iceland

nature

A perfectly shaped volcanic crater rising dramatically from a vast lava field, often considered one of the most symmetrical craters in Iceland. Formed by an eruption around 5,000–6,000 years ago, Eldborg stands about 60 meters above the surrounding landscape and features a deep, well-defined crater. Visitors can hike across the lava field and climb to the rim for panoramic views of the surrounding terrain.
