Thingvellir National Park
Thingvellir National Park, Iceland
nature
✦
You can actually stand between two continents, Europe and North America, and they are slowly drifting apart every year. If you snorkel in the Silfra fissure, you’re literally swimming between continents in some of the clearest water in the world 💧
Thingvellir is one of the most unique places in Iceland, where you can walk between the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates. The landscape is shaped by deep rifts, lava fields and the calm waters of Lake Þingvallavatn. It is also the birthplace of Iceland’s parliament, founded in 930, giving the area both geological and historical significance.
